SIG Sauer P385 + XRAY5: A Complete Line Review

Every SIG P385 model is covered, shot, and reviewed! Guns & Gear’s Ryan Gresham heads to New Hampshire for SIG NEXT, where @sigsauerinc pulled the cover off two of the most interesting products of the year — the brand-new P385 pistol and the XRAY5 enclosed pistol optic. The P385 is a 9mm striker-fired polymer pistol platform built from everything SIG learned across the P365 and P320 lines, and it launches in five configurations right out of the gate: compact, carry with a full-size grip and four-inch barrel, full size, full size with an integrated comp, and the fully tricked-out Mach 3D. Ryan shoots his way up through the entire lineup to feel how each one behaves, and the recoil reduction is the first thing anyone notices — noticeably flatter and less flippy than what shooters are used to.

The XRAY5 optic line may even be the bigger story. From the outside it looks like any other enclosed pistol optic, but SIG rebuilt the internals around a solid-state architecture with a fixed 225-dot matrix, eliminating the moving components that typically fail. It’s also lens-free line of sight, which means zero distortion — SIG set up a dot board to demonstrate it against the competition, and the difference was visible on camera. Add Bluetooth and app connectivity with a digital zero, round counter, and multiple zero profiles, and it’s a genuinely different approach to the pistol red dot.
