The Sauer 200 STR may not be a household name in the USA, but it certainly is a regular sight at the Norwegian Stangskyting scene. This is a competition where shoots essentially mag dump onto targets with bolt action rifles and iron sights, which yielded one of the most versatile shooting systems… and SIG Sauer turned it into a sniper rifle: the SSG 3000.
Designed way ahead of it’s time, the SSG 3000 is a bolt-action, detachable magazine rifle with a user-serviceable barrel (easy barrel swaps) and is chambered in .308, but we re-chambered this rifle back to it’s 6.5x55mm roots to shoot the ye-old swedish cartridge on steroids: the 6.5×55 SKAN.
How does it do? You likely know that it’s cleared the course with zero misses already, but witness the kind of sniper rifle comes from a high-level competition rifle pedigree, with such a forward thinking design that it’s manufacturer struggled to explain it to end users.
